Marlene Rogers
1. Tell us about when you first realized that you were an artist.
My interest in art goes back as far as I remember. My mother gave me my first oil painting kit when I was twelve. Ever since then I have worked at art in some form or another. I began taking it seriously in my teens and began searching for a way to study art. After I was married and had two kids I was able to start college and eventually received a masters degree in fine art. Painting in oils was my first interest but have experimented in many mediums since then, eventually settling on pastel, which I love.
2. What is your biggest challenge when selling your art?
Selling my art never entered my mind at first and then over time I felt the need to share it and entering shows seemed to be the way to go. However, selling is not my strong suit and talking to customers and convincing them they need my work is still a challenge.
3. Tell us about your most interesting interaction with a customer.
Everyone I meet has an interesting story to tell and they mostly all have definite likes and dislikes in art. Most also know nothing about pastel and some are willing to listen to an explanation. Mainly I love the little kids who are fascinated with the pastels and the vibrant colors. I invite them to experiment with them if they are outgoing enough. Usually they are.
