Today, my best friend came over. She is visiting from Texas, so I haven't seen her in a while. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time together. So, we spent what little time we had doing our usual stuff: breakfast and the mall.
I guess that sounds rather tame, or maybe even boring. Not so. We both needed some time to recharge. Spending time together in trivial pursuits was the perfect remedy.
Doing shows can be quite exhausting. We need time to recuperate. We need time to recharge. We need time to relax. Time with a good friend is the perfect way to accomplish this.
Whether it is a weekend show, or a 10-week long show, you expend a lot of energy. It's not just the setting up and tearing down. That's physically exhausting. It's also the mental energy of constantly having to deal with people. For shy people, that can be the most draining part of doing shows.
I have heard it said that extroverts gain energy from being around people, while introverts use up their energy being around people. I have certainly found this to be true.
Which brings me back to my best friend… Being with her today really helped me get my world back in alignment.
So, find whatever it is you need to do after a show to regain your energy. Pamper yourself. Relax. Pet the cat. Eat some chocolate. Or, spend time with a best friend. (Thank you Susie!)
