Never judge a book by its cover

It's about halfway through the Art-A-Fair Festival. This is the summer long art show in Laguna Beach, California that I have been doing for many years. Over the nine weeks of this show I talk to quite a few people.

Some are artists, some are not. If I spend enough time talking to the person, and if I think it's appropriate, I show them my latest book, The Shy Artist's Guide to Answering Questions.

What has surprised me is who ends up purchasing one of my books.

The Positive Experience of Art

I had an interesting experience yesterday. I was in my booth speaking to an elderly couple. The gentleman, whose name was Burt, was looking for an artist who painted boats. I knew the artist he was talking about and told him that the artist was no longer in this show.

We started talking about boats and ships. When Burt recognized that I had some interest in the subject, we sat down so he could show me photos of the model ship he was working on.

Why I Love Trader Joe's

Last week I went to Trader Joe's. Okay, not a particularly newsworthy event, I admit. I was getting the ingredients to make the goodies I served at the opening for the Art-A-Fair Festival. This is a big fancy party where all the artists get to premier their new work at this summer long art show.
